Hair care! Brittle and dry AND damaged?!!!!?

I used to have REALLY straight hair, but I got a perm (big mistake, I know) and well, it's gotten really brittle and dry... I mean, I got highlights before I got my perm and I guess that it's not a good combination. The hair that was highlighted was especially damaged when I got the perm...

I've recently started blowdrying my hair again because I don't like it wavy anymore, but I'm scared it's going to become even more dry and brittle and I'm worried. Is there anything I can apply on my hair (essence etc) that'll help it?

Oh, and I also heard that if you cut the ends of the dry brittle hair, it'll get better... is it true?

heat is your worst enemy right now, however, more

important is it to invest into some serious great products to help repair the damage.

I love super charged moisturizer by Paul Mitchel, great shampoo and repair by pureology.

I had super damaged hair from over bleeching but my hair bounced back when I changed hairdressers and started spending money on higher qualities on products.

If you can take it avoid blowdrying your hair or limit it at least.

Hope this helps you.

Trimming the ends of your hair will make the the ends of your hair healthy, but not the rest of your hair.

Healthy hair tips:

Use a moisturizing shampoo condtioner and leave in creme. I reccomened Neutrogena Triple Moisture, shampoo conditioner and deep recovery hair mask. It nourishes and

revitalizes dry dull damaged hair to softer shinier healthier hair everytime you wash it.

If you dye your hair alot, leave your hair alone and wait to dye it atleast 3 years later or so. Hair dye has terrible chemicals that kill dry/damage your hair.

Brush your hair before shampooing and conditioner so your hair won't be tangeled and managable.

Don't wash your hair everyday try 3 times a week, Washing hair everyday strips the natural oils of your hair into duller dry hair.

Discontinue to heat style your hair or your hair will end up more dry/damaged, wait till it's completely healthy and maybe heat style once a week.

Avoid brushing hair while wet, gently use a wide tooth comb, hair is very vulnerable while wet and can break off easily.

Don't put your hair into pigtails, buns or ponytails while wet, that causes split ends, breakage and damage.

Deep condition twice a week to bring back moisture to your hair.

Trim your hair tips every 4-6 weeks to promote healthy hair grow and prevent split ends from happening.

While shampooing massage your scalp with your fingertips slowly, not with your nails, nails damage the scalp and nails tend to be dirty. it's not necessary to shampoo the ends, then rinse with warm water to open the hair cuticles.

While conditioner leave on for about 2-4 minutes so you can get great results then comb hair with wide tooth comb then rinse with very cold water to help seal the hair cuticles.

If you use gel/hairspray/moose stop using them. They damage and dry up your hair because of the alchohol it contains.

If you use heat appliaces (blowdryers, curling irons, hair straightener) use a heat protecter spray so it'll protect your hair from heat.

If hair is really dry, go to the salon to get a deep treatment on your hair.

Once a month use a special deep conditioning treatment like olive oil, vitamin e oil, mayonaisse, eggs, hot oil treatment, castor oil, coconut oil almond oil or avocado.

Take multivimains, vitamin e, follic acid or prenatal vitamins to promote healthy hair growth.

Drink lots of water for shinier/healthier hair and eat lots of protein and healthy food like meat, milk, cheese, peanut butter, eggs pasta, cooked beans and raw vegetables.

If your in the sun alot buy a cap or a hoodie to protect your hair from the sun, heat damages and drys out your hair.

Buy a leave-in-conditioner/leave-in conditioner/creme to moisturize your hair all day long and don't rinse.

After your out of the shower set your blowdryer on cool setting and blowdryer your hair for 2 minutes, this will help seal the hair cuticles for a smooth shiny surface.

While combing hair, comb it gentle to avoid breakage.

The blowdrying itself is a big mistake after the hair treatments. You should've start from one hair treatment and not simultaneous with other treatments. Take your Vitamins, especially Vit D and E.

Apply mineral oils, to strengthen your hair. Cutting the ends of the hair won't do you any good.

DAMAGED, DRY HAIR: A nourishing conditioner for dry or damaged hair which can be used for all hair types: Separate the white of an egg from the yolk, whip it to a peak. Add 1 Tbls. water to the yolk and blend until the mixture is creamy. Then mix the white and yolk together. Wet your hair with warm water, remove the excess moisture, and apply the mixture to your scalp with your fingertips. Massage gently until the froth is worked into your scalp, then rinse the hair with cool water. Keep applying the mixture until it is used up and then rinsed until all of the egg is washed away.

cutting the ends of your hair does not make it better.

I think the key is good product. there is a big difference between the salon sort and the supermarket sort. I used to use supermarket shampoo - pantene or whatever - and have quite dry/tending to frizzy/brittle hair which i colour as well. and after marvelling recently how soft/silky/straight my hair is after the salon, despite the fact that they blow dry it and all sorts - i asked a lot of questions about how it never feels like that for me at home. first question they asked me what shampoo i used and when i said pantene/supermarket brands - they suggested i try the same sort they use in the salon. this is called evokativ smooth shampoo (and conditioner, the brand is Sebastian. ) About $30 per product. and that i would notice a huge difference by this alone (I did.)

the next thing they used when styling, was crema styler 'anti frizz control with shine' (also sebastian). she mixed this with a few drops of laminates drops, a clear silicone-based gloss. I use that now before styling and the hair is able to be straightened with an iron or blow dried straight and still has a lovely soft texture, none of the brittle/dry/damaged it used to feel like. I am sure the sebastian is just one range of many with quality products but i stress it is a salon brand not a supermarket brand, get your hairdresser to advise.
