I think it sounds sooo ignorant. I also want a definition. A lot of black girls come up to me and say i have good hair and won't leave it alone. I will fall asleep in class and when i wake up it will be all braided and stuff. And then say stuff like "Oh i want a mixed baby so it can have good hair" But they don't understand.

Us mixed people hair is harder to do beleive it or not. The curls get frizzy and it is impossible to keep your hair straight. Regulars black people's hair can be relaxed and be straightened. Us mixed black people hair is to soft and delicate to be permed so we are left with a head full of crazy hair. I mean when my hair is nice and clean and has oil moisturizer in my hair its ok. I remember when i was younger all of my friends hair hair relaxers or had it done up cute. But my hair was extra long and a big wavy frizzy knot. I don't understand it. Just be happy for what you got.

Well it is silly but people refer to my mixed daughter as having good hair I simply say thank you and I take it as a compliment.

well I am not a mixed girl, my hair is good hair and it is not permed... most black women who do get relaxed hair do not have it easy, that is all I am going to say...

Also they think that hair that is not nappy is "good hair" that is bull

Historically, in the black community, "good hair" has meant hair that is as close to white hair as possible. Generally, the less kinkier and nottier the hair, the "better" it was.

As for me, I just wish I had SOME hair, good or bad!

I'm not mixed, but I also have what people call "good hair". That term drives me nuts now. When my hair was relaxed, it was beautiful when the weather was cold and dry, but it was so soft and fine that any little bit of humidity or sweat would make it lose it's style completely. More coarse hair looked a little different, but it certainly seemed to keep it's style better than mine! I eventually cut my hair off, and now I embrace my natural curly 'fro. No more running from humidity. I agree - be happy with what you got and create your own standard of beauty!

But the whole thing is a cultural throwback to the days of slavery. Black slaves were bred to believe that anything white people had was better, including long silky hair.

Today many Blacks have gotten over that phase being dominated; they know how to love and appreciate themselves. See the beautiful corn row hair styles? See them take limited economic power?

However, some young blacks still yearn to have "white" type features because they see that white people control the most wealth and power in society; and have most of the privileges.

Some girls and boys even "bleach" their skin with peroxide, thinking that being white will win them better jobs and rich friends. Sady, it actually works some of the time. .

and havin nappy hair ant really the greatest thing either. my cousin's hair wont grow past her ears and she's tried everything to get it long, meanwhile her mom's biracial and her hair is down to her butt lol. personally i wouldnt mind havin curlier hair, it would make keeping deez waves alot easier and i wouldnt have to wear a doo-rag as much. but i guess tha grass is always greener on tha otha side of tha fence.

If I am correct the term "good hair" came from the slave days (post traumatic slave syndrome) when the slave masters would "mate" with the slaves and say that the offspring had "good hair" because it was more similar to 'mastas

First of all, I LMAO when you said you woke up with your hair braided. That used to happen to me all the time so I stopped wearing my hair loose. Do you know that these girls braided my ponytail! I don't know what the exact definition of "good hair" is but I don't really don't care because my hair will always be "good hair" whether it's long or short, nappy or combed, or relaxed or natural.
