go to a good salon and have them perm your hair straight. when you call to make the appointment don't be afraid to ask if someone working there is familiar with your hair issues and/or straightening. doing it by yourself with your kind of hair would probably take forever even with the best straightener and since it doesnt last youd have to keep doing it over and over. also, try using curl products specifically for your kinda hair. like redken fresh curls and use a scrunch gel type product while your hair is wet and let it air dry or use a diffuser, %26amp; dont try to brush it or anything. i recommend redken fresh curls because they have a system with everything like spray scrunching gel, styling creme, antifrizz serum, etc and the everything is formulated to fight frizz and humidity to keep curls lookin good

to answer your orginal question, though, no it shouldn't. but 1st try getting it cut in layers. it will lay down better and not look so thick. if that doesn't last long enough, then look into thinning. at worst, you will have to get it thinned and layers every time you have it trimmed. but i think thick hair looks really nice, so definitely try long layers 1st %26amp; see how you like that

i think its best to have your hair straightened by a hair dresser like i did. i have been doing it since i was,..7! haha..and my hair is good. I ued to have puffy hair too. if you don't want it to be straightened by a hairdresser, straighten it with an iron. but make sure itsglass, not those ceramic ones. and, oh, thinning makes your hair feel lighter. but get it thinned after you get your hair straightened.

Good Luck!

If you have your hair thinned you may experience split ends through the length of your hair making it appear unhealthy.

Get a pair of GHD's and straighten with those, you will be surprised how much thickness/puff is lost!!!!

(make sure you use a heat protection spray everytime you straighten)
